Is Alcohol Effecting You

Never stop drinking alcohol abruptly

If you drink alcohol regularly it is really important that you do not stop doing so abruptly, as you are likely to experience withdrawal symptoms. Common signs of alcohol withdrawals include shaking, sweating, and nausea/sickness. These would usually occur 8 hours after the last alcoholic drink, but can occur days after.

If you have mild-to-moderate alcohol withdrawal symptoms, these can often be treated by having a “relief drink” of 2 units of alcohol
  • 440ml can of 5 % beer / cider
  • 50ml of any spirits
  • 175ml of 12% wine
The alcohol will take approximately 20 minutes to enter your blood stream. If symptoms do not improve or become unpleasant again, repeat the process.

In some cases these symptoms can be severe and even life-threatening. Seek medical advice immediately if you are experiencing confusion, hallucinations or withdrawal seizures.

It’s also important to understand the legal limits and penalties for alcohol use while driving. More information can be found on the UK Government guidelines website.
